At what distance does your particular lighting setup deliver an appropriate amount of light to the leaves?
That's more meaningful than assuming every grow light should be positioned at exactly the same distance.
How Long Should a Grow Light Stay On?
For the large indoor plants covered in our reference material, the recommended duration is generally:
12–14 hours per day.
However, artificial light doesn't always have to provide the plant's entire daily light exposure.
If your plant receives useful natural daylight for part of the day, a grow light may function primarily as supplemental lighting.
In a very dark or windowless location, artificial lighting may play a much larger role.
A timer can help maintain a consistent schedule without requiring you to switch the light on and off manually every day.
Plants also need a regular dark period, so leaving grow lights on 24 hours a day isn't the goal.
